This former firehouse is the oldest intact firehouse in the City. Designed to house horse-drawn equipment, it was built in the so-called "storefront"-style to reflect the character of neighboring small-scale commercial buildings. Historic Chicago firehouses like this one represents through its history and architecture evolving ideas about the firehouse and fire protection in the City over time.
