Search Tips
You must enter at least one of the following search criteria to begin the search:
Establishment
Name
Street Name
Street Number
ZIP Code
If you enter multiple criteria, the search will find establishments that match all of your requirements. This is often the best way to find an establishment if you do not know its exact name or exact location.
Enter the name of the food establishment you are trying to find.
The search function will look for a match between your entry and any one of the three names an establishment may have in our system.
Example:
Entering "Ann" for the business' Establishment Name could retrieve –>
- ANN SATHERS
- VICTORY'S BANNER RESTAURANT
- AL'S FUN IN THE BUN
AL'S FUN IN THE BUN does not have 'ANN' in the Establishment Name. However, because the Doing Business As (DBA) name of the restaurant is recorded as "MAMA-ANNA INC", AL'S FUN IN THE BUN would also be retrieved.
If you do not find the establishment you want, try using a shorter portion of the name or search by location as described below.
Enter the street name of the food establishment you are trying to find. Do not include St., Ave., Blvd., etc.
The search will look for a match to your entry even if only part of a street name is entered. If you use a partial name, the search results will include establishments on all streets with the partial entry anywhere in their street names.
Example:
Entering "Ash" for the food establishment's Street Name could retrieve establishments on –>
- ASHLAND
- WASHINGTON
- WABASH
Entering both the Establishment Name and the Street Name will reduce the number of search results.
Enter a range of street numbers that includes the address of the food establishment you are trying to find.
Note on Street Direction:
If the street name is not specified, all establishments within this address range on any street in Chicago would be retrieved. Searching only by Street Number will rarely be the best way to find a business. In most cases you will also want to use a Street Name and Street Direction. If you want to search for a specific address rather than for an address range, you can leave the TO box blank. Just enter the Street Number you want in the FROM box. You cannot enter a partial Street Number in the way that you can enter a partial Street Name or Establishment Name. Entering "44" will not retrieve an establishment whose Street Number is 444.
Chicago street numbers are measured relative to the intersection of State (0 E/W) and Madison (0 N/S) in the Loop. Use street direction (N, S, E, or W) to avoid getting search results that are on opposite sides of the city.
Enter the entire ZIP code of the food establishment you are trying to find.
All Chicago ZIP codes begin with “606” except for 60701 (part of O’Hare) and 60707 (near Elmwood Park).
You cannot search for a partial ZIP code or range of ZIP codes.
