Arts and Crafts

American School of Correspondence, photo by CCL Originating from the teachings of William Morris, John Ruskin, and other late-19th century English Theorists, the Arts & Crafts movement's emphasis was on "humanizing" design through simple, crafted forms and honest expression of materials.

Common characteristics are:

  • carefully crafted details
  • use of brick, wood and carved stone
  • maturalistic and geometric forms
  • picturesque massing
